Residual Values and Money Factors (2025)

February 2023 edited March 2023 in General

Hello. First time posting to this forum. Please correct me if my question's format is wrong.

My lease (2020 Nissan Sentra SV) is ending in a few months and I'm trying to decide what brand to go to next for relatively low payments. I'm not biased for or against most brands. I'm looking for which 2022/2023/2024 sedan brands would have the highest residual value for a 3YR/36K lease. I'm debating between the following brands (in no particular order): Hyundai, Kia, Honda, Toyota, Mazda, and Nissan.

Also, in regards to the Money Factor, does the lending institution determine that or is it determined by another party, such as the manufacturer? If the MF is non-negotiable, where would the best place to go to obtain the lowest MF and thus reduce the monthly payments?

Thank you in advance!

You can't look at the residual in a vacuum. There are other components that make a lease deal good, or bad.

The bank sets the base MF, but the dealer is allowed to mark it up for extra profit.

Once you've done your research and narrowed down the list of cars you're interested in, post questions in the specific make/model discussions to get the MF and residual value for each.

Have you considered buying the Sentra out? Your next lease will certainly be more expensive than what you're paying now - perhaps as much as 50%.

Thank you for your response. Yes, I have considered buying out my lease, but I’m anticipating an extra expense in the coming months, and buying out the Sentra would bring my payment up a bit too much. I will narrow down as suggested and post in the respective forum. Thank you.
